When you’re planning a trip, you probably don’t think much about what to wear on the airplane ride to your destination other than comfortable clothes. But depending on where you’re leaving from, where you’re going, and how long you’ll be on the flight, you might want to put a little more thought into your air travel attire.

The first thing you’ll want to consider when dressing for your airplane ride is if there’s a significant difference in climate from where you’re leaving from to where you’re traveling to. If you live in a warm climate, but are traveling to a colder one, you’ll want to consider wearing jeans or pants, a short-sleeve shirt, and carrying a long sleeve button-down shirt and a coat you can wear over your short-sleeve shirt when you arrive at your final destination. If the opposite is true, you’ll want to dress in warm layers, with a comfortable pair of jeans and a short-sleeve shirt as your bottom layer, so you won’t be too warm when you arrive at your final destination.

You’ll also want to take into consideration the temperature of the plane. Most planes are kept at a cooler temperature than you might be comfortable with. Even if you’re traveling in from one warm climate to another, you might want to bring a sweater or long-sleeve shirt you can wear on the plane if you get chilly during your flight.

Shoes are another item you’ll want to consider when dressing for your flight. Sneakers would be a good choice no matter what climate you’re traveling to and from. Again, if you’re traveling to a cooler climate than you’re used to, you might want to think about an extra layer of clothes. By putting on a second pair of socks before you land, you might help your feet stay warmer when you arrive at your final destination. An extra pair of socks will fit easily into your purse or carry-on.
