If you’re going on a train trip, you’re in for a treat as you get to see the country pass you by as you travel along the rails. As much fun as trains can be, they can also be a bit crowded. Packing for a train trip can be a challenge if you’re not sure how much storage space you’ll have. By following a few tips, you can be sure you’ll have everything you want and need on your train trip without going overboard.

The first thing you’ll want to do is determine what clothes you’ll want and need. Depending on the weather and what climate you’ll be traveling to and from, you may need a mix of warm and cool clothes. You’ll also want to pack for any special events you plan to do on your trip. Go through your closet and dresser, and pick out everything you want to bring on your trip. Fold everything carefully and place neatly in your suitcase. You can place your shoes in zipped-up plastic bags and place them on top of your clothes. Pack your toiletries, makeup, medications, and jewelry in a smaller bag.

Unlike taking a trip by car or plane, your space on the train also acts as your hotel room, and there are some extras you may want to pack to make your stay more comfortable. An extra pillow and blanket will help you stay warm and comfortable. Snacks and beverages will ensure you don’t have to travel to the dining car every time you’re hungry, and save you some money. Your cell phone and charger will be usable on most of the train ride, so make sure you have them near you for when you want them. An electronic game or music player, as well as books and magazines can help pass time when there’s nothing to look at out the window. And wet wipes will help keep you and your area clean.
